Description

Day 1: Arrive/Nairobi

Welcome to Nairobi! You will be picked up from the airport once you arrive and transferred to Gracia Gardens where you can spend the day at leisure, recovering from your jetlag! However, if your journey was a short one, you are welcome to get to know the city.

Day 2: Visit Thika Coffee Millers

After what we are hoping was a good rest, we will drive 30 km east of Nairobi to Thika Coffee Millers. And for all you coffee snobs out there, you will spend the day learning about the process of making coffee. That is definitely something to show off to your loved ones back home! You will see where the coffee beans are shelled and dried, milled and packed. And well, if you didn’t get your morning coffee you’re in luck because you will get to taste different types while you’re here.

Return to Nairobi for overnight at Gracia Gardens.

Day 3: Visit Ngethu Farm

And we’re off to another farm! Today we will be heading to Ngethu Farm in the Limuru area about 15km from Nairobi. If you thought yesterday was an experience, you ain’t seen nothing yet! You will get to see a large-scale farm that grows and dries their own coffee. You will also be able to enjoy a nice lunch surrounded by an awesome aroma.

Return to Nairobi for overnight at Gracia Gardens.

Day 4: Nairobi/Nyeri

Don’t worry tea lovers! We have you covered as well. We will be departing from Nairobi in the morning where we will spend the day at Mboi Farm learning about coffee and tea farming. What’s a tour of a coffee/tea plantation without a good cup of coffee/tea. Once you’ve got your jolt of energy, you will begin your tour at the cowsheds where you can try milking and feeding fodder to the cows. No sudden movements, however, you don’t want to get hurt!

Once you’ve tried your hand at milking, you will enter the coffee farm. You can see where some of the world’s finest coffee comes from and even participate in grading, roasting, and grinding some of it. From here, we head to the tea farm.

It’s not all work and no play though. On the way to the tea farm, you will pass by the Muratina tree which was used to make traditional Kikuyu brew. You will see how it was traditionally made and maybe even sneak a sample. You will also get to see a Kikuyu traditional hut which dates back to even before the first European settlers came to Africa.

Here is where the real work starts, once we arrive at the tea farm, we will get right to work picking tea leaves. You will be briefed on how it is picked and hopefully you will become a professional by the end because the picking method makes all the difference and gives it its taste and quality. After lunch, you can continue working on the farm. Burn those calories! Or you can go for a stroll in the local village if time allows. We will be having dinner and staying overnight at the farm.

Day 5: Nyeri/Lake Nakuru

Today, we are off to see what this region of Africa is known for. Game viewing! So, prepare your binoculars and your electronics to take wonderful photos as we head south to Lake Nakuru and spend the day game viewing the park. You will be able to visit a unique sanctuary that caters to a large number of endangered rhinoceros and specifically the Rothschild giraffe. Some other things you might see are lions, leopards, and water bucks, oh my! And we hope you aren’t an ornithophobe because there are approximately 400 bird species in and around the lake!

Day 6: Nakuru/Maasai Mara

Today we head to the jewel of Kenya’s Game Park- the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Fun fact: it is actually part of Serengeti plains and it’s known for its incredible wildebeest migration and it is home to the Big 5- Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Rhinos, and Cape Buffalos. So, hope you’ve got an extra memory card! After lunch, you will explore the Reserve on a late evening game drive. We will be having dinner and staying overnight at Oldarpoi Mara Camp.

Day 7: Maasai Mara

Today we continue the Maasai Mara magic. From base camp, we will explore the Mara region famed for its incredible concentration of game so we will definitely see more game than we saw yesterday. According to some, it is known as “the New York of the natural world”, and if what they mean that it will not disappoint, then they are definitely right!

Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 8: Maasai Mara/Nairobi

We have got one final morning to wave goodbye to the beautiful animals before we have to head back to Nairobi. So, with packed lunches in hand we are off and will arrive late in the afternoon.

Drop off at Gracia Gardens for overnight.

Day 9: Tea excursion/departure

Today will be a day filled with mixed emotions. Happy because we get to explore Kiambethu tea farm which includes a wonderful lunchtime buffet, visit an indigenous forest, and observe how they grow and make tea. But a little sad because it is your last day with us and we will be dropping you off at the airport right after this half day excursion. So soak it all up darlings!
