Visiting 1 country: Kenya
Kenya, the safari capital of the World. If you’re looking for excitement, diverse wildlife, endearing culture, and a journey that will leave you with fascinating, warming recollections, you’re in the right place. We’ll take you on a voyage to the island of Ndere, a National Reserve in the Gulf of Lake Victoria. In the local language, Dholuo, Ndere translates to ‘meeting place’, and it’s more than fitting; here you will embrace the iconic plains of Kenya, seek out some of the most revered animals on the Planet, and engage with local Maasai Tribes people and their culture. Experiences can’t be more unique than this!
Day 1: Arrival Nairobi
Welcome to Nairobi – it’s the beginning of a wild adventure and an exciting time lies ahead.
Upon your arrival, our triumphant tour reps will greet you with the warmest of welcomes. Bizarre questions? They’ve got you. Interesting requests? They’ve got you. Weird personal demands? Yeah…they’ve got you! After we all become friends, we’ll take you to your humble abode to check-in and start the evening. Hopefully your appetite for adventure is as big as, well…your appetite! A complimentary meal is served at the famous Carnivore Restaurant.)
Day 2: Nairobi – Kisumu (Lake Victoria)
Today is the day your African escapade begins!
We can’t blame you if you’re more than a little excited! Our first item is a morning flight from Nairobi to Kisumu. Don’t worry, we’ve got transfers prior to departure and after arrival sorted for your convenience and peace of mind. Once you’re settled in the hotel, next up is some exquisite cuisine for lunch and a chat on the day’s activities – and you can expect lots of glorious animals in their natural habitats!
Get ready to embrace the wilderness as we hit the road to the Impala Sanctuary and Hippo Point, where we inspect these two marvelous species in their habitat, leaving you in your element . Cast your eyes over an African icon, Lake Victoria; take in the rippling waters of the largest freshwater lake on the continent… You can even take a meander on the water by way of glass-bottomed boat (though this costs just a little extra) and reflect on the first proper day of your trip.
Day 3: Ndere Island National Park
Today is a big one, and we know you’re up for it. So pack your bag, grab your camera, guzzle a cup of coffee and let’s go! Walking, hiking, ornithology, predators (yes, we’ll tell more in a bit), and breathtaking views, are all in the itinerary as we conquer the gorgeous Ndere Island. Our conquest to “The Island of Serenity and Beauty” promises a joyous day, and a quick heads up, today we will be commuting by foot. We can hear you internally screaming ‘WHAT?!’ because sure you’ll probably get a blister or two, but wait, we’ll tell you why it’s worth it.
Ndere homes some of the World’s most intriguing animals, with a multitude of exotic birds, providing you with some glorious shots for your Instagram. If that’s not enough to whet your inner adventurists, we’ve got a better reason.
Beware The Croc
We previously mentioned predators, remember? There’s a beauty here on Ndere that will really catch your eye. The Nile Crocodile. Yes, Ndere counts the World’s most dangerous crocodilian species as a resident, and you get to witness this apex predator doing its thing – which includes tactfully hunting their next snack, or having their teeth cleaned by local birds. And you thought going to the dentist was scary!
After a day of animal spotting, we head back to camp for dinner and a relaxing evening after an eventful day.
Day 4: Kisumu – Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Oh yes, another busy day is on the cards. Everyone rested, excited, and good to go? Perfect!
We devour breakfast and hit the high road early, making moves towards the Maasai Mara Reserve – a World famous nature park in The Great Rift Valley. Set against astonishing open plains, and home to one hundred species, including ‘The Big Five’ – The African Elephant, The African Lion, Cape Buffalo, The African Leopard, and The Black Rhino. Soon you’ll see why Maasai Mara is known as the ‘Jewel’ of Kenya’s wildlife tourism. Furthermore, you may have ‘herd’ of the great Wildebeest migration from various nature documentaries? Well, travel with us between July and October and you may be lucky enough to see one of Earth’s greatest sights.
Day 5: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Maasai village visit
Animals take a backseat today, as we give you a thrilling and unique cultural experience.
We enter the park and introduce you to the locals… The Maasai Tribe. These folk are an indigenous people who have maintained a strong cultural heritage with their surroundings against a World that is rapidly modernizing. Offering an unparalleled and authentic insight into their lives, you will immerse yourself into Maasai culture by singing and dancing with the Tribe, touring their settlements, witnessing a “Eunoto” warrior initiation ceremony, and visiting a local school. This truly enchanting day will arouse memories that will last a lifetime.
Day 6: Maasai Mara Game Reserve
After a few lively days, we take it easy by enjoying a day spent observing the animals and stunning views of the Maasai Mara. However, if you’ve still got a craving for more excitement, we offer something a little classy, with the option of a hot air balloon safari over the park including a champagne breakfast (at an additional cost).
Day 7: Maasai Mara – Nairobi
Well rested and ready for the final stretch, we once again have options for you to round off your Kenyan excursion; choose from one last drive at the break of dawn around the Maasai Mara to witness predators hunting for their breakfast. Seeing these fantastic animals one last time is highly recommended. Or, if you prefer to start the day at a slower pace, we’ll take off after breakfast and bid “Kwaheri” (goodbye) to Maasai Mara, leaving this wondrous place with a head full of illuminating memories.
Nairobi last minute shopping
After arrival in Nairobi, you’ll get an opportunity to purchase some genuine souvenirs, such as Kazuri beads, from a local center that focuses on helping single women create, earn, and sustain themselves through crafting beads and pottery. Utterly inspiring.
That’s a wrap on your Kenyan journey. We hope the adventure shattered all your expectations, and will leave you with the fondest of memories. Maybe, with a little luck and some fire in your belly, we may see you back here someday soon.
